Selected fellows will represent Arab civil society at the United Nations Internet Governance Forum (IGF) in Istanbul, Turkey 2-5 September 2014

Hivos is pleased to announce the launch of a programme for selected fellows to attend the IGF through its programme IGMENA (www.igmena.org). This opportunity is specifically developed for civic actors from the Arab region who have previously participated in Hivos training programmes on Internet Governance in the past two years.

The ninth meeting of the Internet Governance Forum will take place in Istanbul Turkey, 2-5 September 2014. This year’s theme is "Connecting Continents for Enhanced Multi-stakeholder Internet Governance."

This year will mark the first time a large civil society group from the Arab region will be present at the meeting, which gathers Internet policy decision-makers from governments and large corporations in the Internet industry from around the world.

The fellowship programme aims to engage civic actors from the region in the global discussion on IG and policies to bring forth regional IG issues to the international IG community during this crucial time in which the management of the Internet is under close scrutiny.

Therefore it is important that the selected fellows have an understanding of the main issues and are familiar with the discourse on the local and regional level.

In the light of this, blog posts submitted as part of the application process should focus on one or more of the following topics:

Policies Enabling Access;
Internet as an Engine for Growth and Development;
Enhancing Digital Trust;
Internet and Human Rights;
Content Creation, Dissemination, and Use

Candidates should link the writing submission to their country of origin and/or to the Arab region.
